Trying a new kitchen can feel like a lot. The names are new, the menu looks different, and you don’t want to order the wrong thing. So here’s a simple plan for your first visit to Sarajevo Kitchen.
And before anything else: everything on our menu is 100% halal. You don’t have to ask, check or wonder. Just order.
Start with something from the oven
Balkan food starts at the bakery. Our case is where you’ll find:
- Pita with spinach, cheese or potato, $9.99 per piece. Thin, flaky, rolled by hand. If you only try one thing, try this. (What is pita?)
- Kifle, soft golden crescent rolls, $2.50 each. (What are kifle?)
- Chocolate croissants, $7.00 each, for anyone with a sweet tooth.
Then go to the grill
Ćevapi are the dish Sarajevo is known for. They’re traditional Bosnian grilled beef, served by the piece:
- 5 for $12.99
- 10 for $18.99
- 15 for $24.99
- 20 for $31.99
Five is a nice lunch. Ten if you’re really hungry. (How to eat ćevapi)
Not in the mood for ćevapi? Our chicken breast is coated in flour and egg and cooked fresh until golden brown, $8.99 each.
Finish the Balkan way
No Balkan meal really ends without something sweet and something to sip.
- Bosnian coffee, $4.00, served with a small sweet treat.
- Turkish tea, $3.00, in a proper tea glass.
- Baklava, $5.00, with pistachios and walnuts.
- Tres leches cake, $6.00, soft and soaked in three milks.
Our pick for a first visit
If you want us to choose for you, here’s a great first meal for one:
- A piece of spinach and cheese pita
- Five ćevapi
- A Bosnian coffee and a piece of baklava
Coming as a family? Grab a few pieces of pita, a plate of 15 or 20 ćevapi to share, and a box of sweets for later.
